Artist Statement

The first reaction that a viewer has on a scene or situation seems to be based on less than fifteen seconds of attention span. Within that short period of time, some people feel as if they have grasped the full understanding of what there is, and that is all they need to know. Far too often in daily life, that which we see and hear, all that we are shown and told in person, and through various media outlets, is taken for granted as the whole truth. It isn’t until someone has learned all the details and viewpoints of a situation that they can have any idea as to what is really going on.

The work in my images is about looking beyond the simplicity of the obvious, and gaining more insight through the details which may not be so blatantly present based on fifteen seconds or less. The goal is for the viewers to question that which is presented to them until they’ve seen more than just the face value. What is beyond can be hidden imagery, symbolism, details, or simply emotion that isn’t obvious at first glance. I bid you welcome to look further.
