So, first and foremost. This week I’ll be working at New York Comic Con in NYC. I’ll be at the Fanboy Collectibles booth 2937 (and selling some artwork as well.)

Also, I have my first game going through kickstarter right now. Day one and we’re already moving along toward our goal. Deathbot Derby on Kickstarter.

While I could go into all the fine details on the game, and how fun it was to make the artwork for it, you’re better off just clicking the link and checking out the reviews we’ve gotten on it as well as seeing all the ins and outs of the game itself.
It’s a lot of game in a little box, and it’s fun.
If you cant help fund it, please share the link as that gets it seen by more people who may very well be interested in turning their friend’s robots into scrap.

Last but not least, just got my copy of Caustic Comics Insane Tales From The Dead featuring my piece EveVI. There is a lot of cool stuff in this book and the print quality on it is excellent. Proud to be a part of it.

If you want to order your copy, go to www.InsaneTalesFromTheDead.com while supplies last as there are a number of limited edition covers for this book.

That’s all the updates for now. See you at NYCC, and will be working on some more cool projects on twitch after this event is over. www.Twitch.TV/JamesGroelingArt

JG out.

Oops,… well, may as well make the best of it. (Also it appears that I have finally figured out how to schedule updates, there’s so much I can do in advance now. regular JDGAF!)

It’s amazing how alcohol will open people up, lets see how this pans out shall we?

(note: I’m setting this to post at 3pm today, trying to work out these scheduled posts so I can update when I’m traveling for events and comic cons.)
(note 2: I’ll be at Boston comic con this coming weekend, and the following weekend at Mohegan Sun in CT for another comic convention. Stop by the Fanboy Collectibles booth to say hi)

Tiv seems oddly quiet around this beauty,… looks like there’s some history here,… dun dun dun. The plot thickens.
Also, I’ve decided this storyline has a bit more life to it than I had thought originally. More to come soon. (hopefully I can figure out how to properly set up timed posts)

(Note: My technological ineptitude struck again, thought I had set a timed post for this one,… not the case. So while this is a week later than intended, you are also getting a second JDGAF post right after this one, so, doubled up.)

Spent a good portion of my evening tonight in the Microsoft offices in Times Square, NYC. I was Working with Zack of Royal N Games (go follow their Facebook and Twitter) to Promote the game we’ve been working on, Deathbot Derby. keep an eye out for the hashtag #TestYourMetal

Long ago, disgruntled fans mourned the cancelation of their favorite robot fighting T.V. show, and took to the underground. Void of caution or regard for public safety, contenders began to build incredible machines of destruction and pit them against each other in one on one death matches. And so was born…
The DeathBot Derby!

In DeathBot Derby players build their bots using a quick card drafting mechanism and then face off in an ever changing arena. They will have to strategically move and attack their opponent to gain the tactical advantage. The winning DeathBot goes home a champion, and the loser goes back to the scrap heap they came from.

Deathbot Derby is in the last of it’s Beta stage as we are ironing out the final details, and will be running a kickstarter to fund the game in October of 2016. All in all tonight’s event was to share what we’ve been making with some gamers, and we were fortunate enough to have a lot of people swing by the booth to check it out, play, and have good times. The event had over 700 people in attendance, and so many various games ranging from board and card games, to mobile apps, and full on console and computer games, all from independent companies. The variety of options to play was incredible, but more so was the top quality of a lot of the games there. On top of that, almost every single person I saw there seemed to be happy and having a great time (gamers and the game creators), so definitely a successful evening. We may be doing another event with the Playcrafting group in October. (Be sure to follow Royal N Games on their social media pages for announcements regarding that)

Ready for the Bacchanal

MaskPrimed

In October, I had finished my first mask making project after slowly working on it, a little at a time. Originally it had started as a simple sketch idea, that I picked up materials for and started, then got sidelined with life. As October rolled around, and I had some free time, I dove in and made sure that I devoted enough time to it that I would be able to finish it properly.

Materials/Process:

Started with a plaster mask from an art store. Immediately cut off the little rinky elastic strap, as well as the lower half of the face, as I wanted to be able to talk, eat, and drink with the mask on. Next step was to take wire mesh (wrapped around crumpled newspaper), and start forming the under structure of the horns. wiring the base of them into the pre-existing mask. Once the horn structure was about where I wanted them, flattened sheets of paperclay were drapped over the mesh, and sculpted into rudimentary horns. Ridges and smaller details were added later.

At a certain point I realized I wanted a darker look to it, and started cutting out the eye areas and the lower face using an Xacto, then wound up picking up a second mask to add the layered effect (also cut down). Some of the last lines on the face, and the trio of circles, were added by using Elmer’s glue to draw lines, and then building the layers up as each layer dried.

Then primed, and ready for paint. which was a solid basecoat of black spraypaint, followed by red and white, and some more black layering with sprays, before going in with brush to finish the small details and then sealing with a varnish coat.

Coupled with some makeup effects underneath, and a nice suit and some props, turned out quite well.
