Got around to scanning a few more of the yearly planner art I have. Theres a bunch of other pieces in there that still need slight color washes before they’ll be ready to scan. Hopefully get to those soon, but have a bit of other things going at the moment.

For now, here’s the new scans, as well as an updated section in the Drawing page for them. Goal of 2014, organize and redesign the site/pages for easier access and displaying of what I do. Drawing page now.

Chinese New Year
Pretty straight forward, a dragon making it’s way through confetti littered streets.

Thanksgiving

Remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Giving up their lives for your dinner table. T-Day, never forget.

The sign gigs have been going pretty so far. The more I work within the constraints of a limited set of colors and a black background, the more I realize i can just have some fun and create different looks. That might be part of why I’ve gotten a few call-backs to places to expand their sign selections already. Here are a few new ones for your enjoyment.

O’Hanlon’s on 14th street (just west of 1st Ave)

Pretty similar layouts with different art thrown into the mix. Also had a brand new, never before used board to play on which was pretty fun.  Set the opening standards high.

Exchange Bar & Grill on 3rd Ave between 20th and 21st streets.

Was asked to come in and do signs for their weekend brunch menu, and played around a little more with different looks. Although I have realized that the chalkboard pens I use are definitely going to be needing replacements already.

It’s been fun so far, although I still havent really started handing out cards at all the bars yet, mostly because I’m still figuring out what’s an appropriate price range for work and materials, and second because I’ve been out of town working on some projects so haven’t been local.

Will most likely have at least one new JDGAF comic up for you guys by next Monday, and another two by the end of next week. This traveling for work bit and lacking a portable computer are slowing down my updates. Going to have to correct that soon.

This project was commissioned by Indoor Extreme Sports of Queens. They recently started doing archery tag as one of their play options and wanted something to spruce up that section of the location with the right theme. Also got to play a few games of it and had a ridiculous amount of fun.

Basically I did a sketch of the figures, painted them in, and then using spray paints, I did the various build up of the camo print in the background. The pink was the request of the owner, as much of the other areas are a darker color and theme, so he wanted something very light in this area. At first I was a little hesitant, but in the long run it does look pretty cool.

The figures first:

And then the full layout (as well as I could photograph) of the wall.

Another aspect of the archery tag is that there is a blacklight part of the game where the arrowheads (the large foam bumpers) glow in the dark, as do the zombies that are coming after you,… yes that’s right, glow in the dark zombie archery tag. Mind BLOWN! Which is also amazingly fun.

To make the imagery of the mural visible while the black-lights are on, we ordered some black-light paint, and I got to do some simple highlighting with it. Didn’t want the whole wall to be glowing, just a little something there which looked cool.
Unfortunately, black-light paint does not photograph all that well with my camera, so I took these shots and then did a little image adjustment afterwards so you can see a little better. Still not super clear, but understandable. It looks better in person, but you get the idea.

Fun projects at cool places. That should be all the updates for tonight, have a lot of things I need to get done, so have to go back to work. Thanks for checking the page, and come back soon, have some more goodies for you.

Was recently asked by one of the businesses I’d done work for, to come back and do more of their signs.
Pretty much given free reign on what will work for their present look, and be legible, so this is what I created for them. Simple stuff to show off their draft menu. The smaller boards I just redid the lettering, the bigger boards I got to play with a little more.

Nothing mindblowing here, just simple ideas that make the boards more interesting and eye catching than simple lettering.
Hopefully more business along these lines coming up in the near future.

So there is a company called KidRobot that makes these pretty fun little toys called Munny figures, blank white vinyl toys that you can sculpt on, paint on, draw on, cut, carve, etc. Since I’ve got a few of these (and some roseart color blanks) I’ve been playing around with different ideas for them.

This time I worked on a Foomi, which is a Munny with flame like head shape and a little tail. I like devils and demons for my art, so it was pretty much destined to happen.

Here’s a collection of shots. Some work in progress images, some collages of imagery, and a couple playful images… Cuz that’s how I roll.

Buahahahahaha. Happy Halloween all. Yes I know this is a day late, but seeing as Halloween was effectively cancelled for a lot of us in NY, particularly those in NYC, I think it’s alright that I’m a touch behind on this. Enjoy.
